If there is one surprising trend, it’s the corset belt trend. I’ve quite a heavy past with corsets. I wore a lot of them as a teen, mostly to slim down my waist, 18th century style (I know, waist training is terribly unhealthy, but no one expect a 14 years old to be smart…) but I also made a lot of them, mostly during my studies. (Here you can see a corset dress I designed and made during my last year. Sorry for the low quality photo…). But despite loving corsets in general for their beauty and the craftsmanship, I would have never expected them to become mainstream.
I might actually be biased on the subject. After all, I’ve been a huge fan of Jean-Paul Gaultier’s corsets for as long as I remember. So when Zara offers a leather belt corset for just 20 bucks, I have to buy it… And to style this corset belt, I’ve made a few ununsual choices. I know, this isn’t the most well balanced outfit on this blog. I think was craving for a more casual outfit this day. This is why I picked some skinny jeans over tailored suit pants (It will probably be a future outfit on this blog!). I also thought that this belt looks very interesting with this poplin shirt, due to the dropped shoulders. To finish the look I picked some kitten heels, still from Zara, and a bucket bag from Mango.
What’s your take on the corset belt trend?
