Growing up, my body went through a lot of weight change. I went from thin to chubby, from chubby to obese and from obese to unhealthily skinny. I won’t get into too much details about what caused all of these changes as I’m back to a normal weight. However as you can imagine, feeling comfortable in my own skin is something I had to focus on over the past few years.
For the longest time, there are clothes that I would never allow myself to wear. Shorts, skinny jeans, bodycon dresses, cropped tops, the list is endless! However, my battle with severe anxiety has taught me one very valuable thing: You have to face your fears in order to get rid of them. It’s the same process with clothes and body image, even if “fear” isn’t the best word to describe it.
There are still things I won’t allow myself to wear. I’m thin and my bones are very small. But I’m not toned. I’m conscious to have a bit of those italian wider hips and a smaller waist but I also know that I’m flat as a pancake (2D shaped kinda…).
Also, being repetitively called names in the past such as toothpick, bony, skeletal and more, were never the most helpful things to hear. For the longest time, I felt like my body wasn’t feminine enough to wear clothes of a particular type. However as one, quicky forgotten, French president once said: Change is now. Hence why you can see me wearing a dress I never thought I would ever wear and that is a bodycon dress.
This dress is just so lovely that it was just the perfect excuse, and test, to get past my body image issues. Even if I have always been a fan of flowy and carefree dresses, this one was to cute to be ignored! Not to mention the very affordable price. I wouldn’t say I felt empowered when wearing this dress but I’ve learned to care less about my lack of body curves. By extention, to care less about what people may think.
We all have issues with our own body, or at least things we greatly criticize about them. This topic is one of those neverending ones! So let’s end this post on a very shallow question: How would you wear this dress?
Bodycon floral dress: Zara/ Denim jacket: Vintage/ Shoes: Mango (old collection)/ Straw bag: Stella Forest (old collection)
